~~ hmmm. well i know in realism portraits in graphite, it can be pretty detailed. use a light pencil and draw thin close lines and then gradient shade. That's a generally what I do... but it really depends on the reference I use. if you look at my portrait of Craig Smith on my front page, maybe that will help you out and give you an idea of what I mean?? It's not always easy to find photos of the guys without their helmets lol.
